Day 2 - Sunday, Fun in the Sun

Sunday we got up rather late (at least for me) and had a lazy breakfast.

Reading about what our options are...with a bit too much help.

We came to play in the sun and ocean, so we did just that.  We soon found out that although the beach is pure white sand, there are rocks and coral out there. June got a rock dropped on her foot by one of the waves, so we decided to move down the beach. We found a spot where there was just sand, nothing to give you an owie like June's. The waves are big enough that it is nearly impossible to stand in the water, you are in or out, or you will be very shortly.

We body surfed the waves. Well at least Ed and I did..Bob is the one on the right. That is not the way you want to take a big wave.

Donna and Jean to the rescue after seeing the big Texan flipped and dropped on the beach, or at least to tell Bob to "pull up his shorts".

We played in the waves for several hours, long enough to get a good scorching from the sun, hey that is what we came for.

After the exertion of playing in the waves, we needed refreshment. We headed to the pool side bar, where we are now on a first name basis with the bartender, Terry.

It seems we were not the only species hanging at the pool.  This guy was about 2feet in length, a big boy.  A smaller lizard decided to brave the open pool area, but there is a cat that hangs around and he found the lizard rather tasty. It was a good life lesson for a few of the kids around the pool.

After lunch and our naps (we are on vacation) we hung around the bar pool area for the afternoon just chilling. It was nice to just relax for a few hours.

We had our first dinner here at the main restaurant, Cinnamon's. They prefer you dress up for dinner and most, but not all, do... it is kind of nice.  In general the food here has been very good, it is easy to see why you can put on ten pounds in a week.

We ended the evening on the massive patio area, where they brought in a Karaoke DJ...we heard some pretty horrible singing but it was fun.

Monday...we are not sure what it will bring but we are sure it will involve sun and water.

Island life

A great first day. Blue water, white sand beach and alcohol aplenty. We did not renew our wedding vows but Fred loves Jean and Donna.  :)

Day 1 - Saturday, Travel

Our flight on Saturday was out of BTV at 05:40, oh dark hundred as brother Randy would say. We set the alarm for  2AM but it is hard to sleep when you know you have to get up so early.  The Kitchins and Allens arrived by 02:45 and we were off to the airport. Why do they insist you get to the airport 2 hours ahead of your 05:40 flight but don't open the ticket counter until 04:00 AM?

Our flights took us from BTV to JFK with an hour layover and then onto Grenada. Everything  went so smoothly, we did not even have time to grab breakfast, so when we arrived in Grenada we were very hungry.

When we landed in Grenada we took a cab to the hotel, The Grenadian by Rex Resorts. I asked how much the fare was before we loaded up, he said $30 for the six of us and all our bags. I was not quite sure how far the hotel was, but knew it was not far.  $30 sounded like plenty but there were 6 plus luggage. When we arrived at the hotel, I gave him $33. The driver said "this is too much", it was $30 in East Caribbean Dollars.  The rate posted at the hotel is $2.65 US to 1 EC.  So our first impression of the people was very positive, he was an honest man and gave me back a $20 bill, we have his card and will use him again this trip.

It was around 2:30 by the time we checked in and since our rooms were not ready we headed for lunch poolside in our travel digs. We were dressed way too warm, but there is always a breeze near the beach, so we were not that uncomfortable.

The grounds of the hotel have lots of birds just hanging out.

Birds hanging in a tree.

After lunch we sat on the patio and waited for our rooms.

We are staying at The Grenadian by Rex Resorts. We each have separate rooms but we are all on the same floor and all have ocean views. The Grenadian has clearly been here a long time, but is generally in pretty good shape.

After getting settled in and changing into clothes that better displayed our pearly white skin, we walked the beach to the southwest until we came to a rock out cropping that we would have to go over or swim, we turned around. The beach in front of the Grenadian is about 1/3 of a mile of pure, fine, white sand, pretty nice.

Walking on the beach.

We even found a beach wedding chappel.

Dinner was by the pool, it was BBQ night. They bring a grill out by the pool and cook chicken and pork right there, and there is always fish.  The pork was some of the best ribs I have had..so far the food has been quite good.

Nice outdoor bar.

We ended the evening on the patio again, with live music, they had a percussion band and they were good.

"Stella!"

Mother Nature helped us remember why we need to leave Vermont now and then. Grenada, here we come!

Minus hours...

OK...last Saturday it never got out of the single digits, the wind never stopped..it was Arctic cold.  Tuesday was a blizzard...it snowed, and snowed and snowed...and the wind blew and blew and blew...Wednesday it snowed some more....all in all the area got over 2ft. It was an epic storm. We did enjoy the company of Bob Tuesday night because they closed the bridge due to the blizzard and he couldn't get home.

Although today is in the 20s and sunny, we are ready for some time in a warmer climate.

Who is this Mother Nature?

I seem to be having some trouble trying to get a base tan. At least I don't have to worry about my beer getting warm yet.

One Week

This morning there were no degrees at all....zero, 0, nil, naught....and the wind blew all night about 25mph.

It has warmed up some....the wind chill is only -15F.

Why would we want to leave here?

Hmmmm...I think I get it....

Time to go pack...but looks like we only need shorts.... :-)
